A Note About Our Recent Inactivity

Dear OT!M readers and writers,

Allow me to apologize personally for our current and extended inactivity. Yes, we are still here, and you can look forward to a new issue in the future, though at this point we can't really give an estimated date. As much as we love you all and enjoy our job here, recent circumstances have made it difficult for us to do much work on OT!M. We have both unfortunately been preoccupied with various things. (I, for example, recently relocated to Slovakia for a teaching assignment.) We will, however, have things up and running again as soon as possible.

To those of you who have submitted: Sorry for the delay, but we will still be considering all submissions unless you have e-mailed to withdraw them.

To those of you who would like to submit: Please, please do. We are always looking for excellent new work to publish, even when we're forced to take a bit of a break.

A great big THANK YOU to all of you for your support. We'll make it worth your while.

Yours,

NM

Pushcart and Updates

OT!M is proud to announce this year's (and our first ever) Pushcart nominations! The following pieces were selected by the editors last week and mailed to the good folks at Pushcart Press:

  • "Figs" and "Vox" by Jesse Bishop
  • "Meditations on T.V." by Katie Byrum
  • "The Trip Down" and "Soft Knees" by Jennifer Dempsey
  • "Dreams, Ides of March" by Karen Greenbaum-Maya
Congratulations, folks. And thank you. Seriously.

Also, a couple of quick updates.

Issue No. 2 is still in the works, but we hope to have everything ready to go in the next several weeks. Look for it sometime toward the end of December or the first part of January. Thanks for being patient with your overworked editors.

We mentioned (probably prematurely) in the last OT!M news item that the new issue would appear on a shiny new website. While we are still planning to move to a new site, it seems right now that the move may be a bit further down the road. Don't worry. We're still new and still now, but eventually, we promise, we (and our site) will be newer and nower.

Thanks for reading. Thanks for writing. Thanks for being you (and new).

Transitioning

Dear OT!M readers and writers,

Very big news today. In the next several weeks, O Tempora! Magazine will be going through some fundamental changes. We hope you will bear with us while we work through this huge transition.
  1. First, we would like to wish Phillip Mitchell, who has served as Fiction Editor, a very fond farewell from the OT!M staff. Rebecah and I send him our most profound thanks for the instrumental role he played in making our first issue a reality. We wish you all the best, Phillip. I'm sure our readers do the same.
  2. After many long, hard weeks of consideration, we have decided that it is in the best interests of OT!M to focus, for the next several issues at very least, on poetry. We feel that, by channeling all of our time and energy into one genre, we can push the magazine to the level of depth and specificity that our readers deserve. In this spirit, we are currently at work on expanding the reviews section and adding a new section featuring exclusive interviews with a wide array of poets. We hope to not only share today's best new poetry with our readers, but also to encourage dialog by publishing the best new writing about poetry that we can get our hands on.
  3. Consequently, we are suspending fiction and nonfiction submissions until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes folks who have already submitted or have been planning to submit work in these genres. I will do my best to send this notice as an e-mail to each and every one of those who have already submitted work to OT!M No. 2. We have read a ton of excellent stories and essays, and we have the utmost respect for the writers who have entrusted the fruits of their labors to us. You deserve our deepest gratitude, and we offer that to you.
  4. We are currently working on building OT!M a new home. By the time our next issue hits the web, you should be able to see us on a newer, shinier, happier and otherwise higher-tech website! Be on the lookout here at otemporamagazine.com.
Thanks for stopping by. You're what keeps this party rocking.

Yours,

NM

Here We Go

Issue No. 1 of OT!M is now live. Many thanks to everyone who submitted and otherwise supported us during these formative stages. We hope you enjoy these poems, stories, essays and this review as much as we do. If you do, tell your friends and colleagues about us.

If you submitted and haven't yet heard back from us, don't worry. Your work is being considered for Issue No. 2. And if you haven't submitted yet, why not?

Thanks again, folks.

Welcoming and Such

Welcome to the new News section of O Tempora! Magazine. We'll be posting notices and updates here for the foreseeable future. You can stay up-to-date by checking back here regularly or by subscribing using the link at the bottom of the page.

Today we have three tidbits to share:

  1. Since OT!M started a few months ago, our staff has tripled in size. I'm super stoked to welcome Phillip Mitchell and Rebecah Pulsifer onboard as Fiction Editor and Review Editor, respectively.
  2. We're still accepting submissions for OT!M No. 1, but not for long. Make sure to submit soon if you'd like your work to be considered for the issue. Anything sent after we've finished up No. 1 will, of course, be considered for No. 2.
  3. While we still do not have a hard release date for OT!M No. 1, we plan to have everything ready to rock sometime before the end of July. Keep an eye out.
More news soon. Thanks for checking in.
